NEMA refutes claims that its officials were caught re-bagging rice donated by the Govt & Nigerians to IDPs
Our attention has been drawn to the Vanguard newspaper editorial publication on Monday 27th June 2016 and the Nation newspaper publication of today 29th June 2016 where the National Emergency Management Agency is alleged to have rebagged rice meant for IDPs.
To set the record straight, there was no time our officials rebagged any IDPs rice not to say that they were accused or captured doing so. The video that is being circulated on the social media with such allegation was neither taken at any of our warehouse nor feature our official. Given the weight of the allegation which was directed at the Borno State Emergency Management Agency, the Governor has since directed security agencies to investigate the incidence. Report of the investigation is being awaited.
It's equally important to inform you that NEMA as Federal Goverment's agency has an MoU with state government where it supplies food and non food items and hands it over to state in full glare of media while the state government would provide condiments for feeding of IDPs in the state. Therefore, there is no way the agency's officials could have gone back to state government's store and start rebagging IDPs rice as alleged.
