ASUP To Join ASUU Strike Friday

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, saysit  will  embark on an indefinite strike from Friday, 4 October, 2013 to press home their demands. The National Chairman of the Union, Chibuzo Asomugha, gave this indication in a chat with P.M.NEWS on Monday morning. He stated clearly that the lecturers had been asked to call off the industrial action which they embarked upon early this year but the Federal Government is yet to fulfill the promises made since then. “We are going on an indefinite strike starting from Friday, 4 October, to remind the Federal Government of the promises they made when they asked us to go back to the classrooms early this year. “The union believes that the government has failed us in that regard because we trusted them but the conditions were not met,” Asomugha stated. He added that “for these reasons, we have instructed all our member institutions to stay away from the classrooms starting from Friday as we seek a permanent solution

Crime: 44-Year Old Nigerian Woman Found Dead In her London Home! Her 21-Year Old Son Charged For Murder

  A 44-year old accountant and mother, Tolu Kalejaiye was found dead in her London home on Thursday. She was found lying on her back, in her kitchen, with a large laceration to the left side of her neck.  Her 21-year old son, Oludotun Emmanual Kalejaiye, who lives with her has been charged with murder after being held in custody and questioned overnight by the police. Her neighbors have described her as a gentle hardworking lady who is very pleasant.    Her son was taken into court Saturday.

Fashola unveils West Africa’s tallest hotel in Lagos

Fashola at the official opening of Intercontinental Hotel in Lagos Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos today unveiled the tallest hotel in West Africa, Intercontinental Lagos, built at a cost of N30 billion. The hotel located at Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria is a 23-storey building containing 358 rooms and 37 suites and a Presidential suite. The Intercontinental Lagos, a subsidiary of the Intercontinental Hotel Group, IHG, is owned by the Milan Group. Unveiling the 5-star hotel, Fashola said the edifice would surely boost the hospitality and tourism industry in the state, while urging other entrepreneurs to look inward and invest their money in hotels and public utilities such as roads. According to him, the unveiling of the hotel represented the increasing brands of hotels making Nigeria their choice destinations, saying that the tourism industry would be boosted by the new edifice. “The tourism business is the major sector

Baby's best friend: Heroic dog saves young child by lying in its way to stop it crawling into the sea

A dog became the hero of the day when it saved a baby from going into the water on a beach in Turkey. In a true display of what it means to be man's best friend, the dog was filmed coming to the rescue when the child crawled towards the waves. The pet dashes after the child heading for the sea, and lying down in the baby’s way. Hero: The loyal dog has lied down between the baby and the sea, protecting it from the water   Dog steers baby away from dangerous waves in Turkey  The short video was filmed at Kabak Bay on the south-west coast of Turkey. The dog is seen playing fetch in the background as it spots the baby crawling across the beach.
