Health Gist: Why men sleep after sex

Image
Some people have described sex as one of the sweetest things on earth, and even if it is stressful and requires a lot of strength to do, especially for men, it is a rigorous exercise many people would gladly undertake over and over again. Though, it is no secret that many men nod off straight after sex, some women also sometimes feel sleepy after sex but the phenomenon seems more pronounced in men. To women, the obvious sign of complete ‘shutdown’ by men moments after a passionate encounter is practically frustrating, and could be accompanied with a loud buzz of snoring. Scientists have given men the perfect excuse for feeling sleepy after sex: ‘they just cannot help themselves, and not that they are just selfish.’ It is easy to think that men sleep off after sex because they are tired, but findings have shown that it goes beyond that. Scientists have said that men really do need to sleep after sex when they climax because their brains become flooded with sleep-inducing

A WINNING RESUME by Kehinde Akintobi

A resume can be defined as a documented summary of a job applicant's skills, academic, personal and professional qualifications as well as achievements for job search purposes.  Please note that it is a document. Some individuals copy and paste their resumes/ CVs in the body of their e-mails. Also, it is a summary not a biography.  It should not be too long. You are meant to state what you achieved on a job instead of what you were required to do.  Even the staff that was sacked had a job function. He was sacked because he didn't do it well.  Do a self assessment and project the skills, experiences and achievements that you have that are in line with your desired job.  Put the less relevant details at the last page of your resume e.g. date of birth, age and gender. Details like state of origin, religion and nationality (if not requested) are not necessary.  Referee information should only be provided upon request especially for security and privacy reasons.  Your

ALTERNATIVE JOB SEARCH by Kehinde Akintobi

We continue from last week STRATEGIES: STEP 2: EMPLOYABILITY PROGRAMS:  Employability refers to the capability to get and keep satisfactory work. An employability program is therefore designed to enhance the skills of job seekers to help them become more attractive to prospective employers. Some organizations also arrange internship opportunities for deserving participants after the program.  Some programs are targeted towards specific Industries e.g. Oil & Gas or Finance whilst others are general. Remember to investigate programs and firms before spending money. Ask questions about content, facilitators, internship placement and testimonies. Such programs could empower you, draw you closer to a job or either give you one. A lot of people yearn to earn. A lot of times, it pays to learn first. STEP 3: VOLUNTEERING: In situations where direct work opportunities are difficult to find, job seekers can creatively use volunteering as a tactic to attract jobs. This may work when in

How To Make Friends by Aidy Thomas

A lot of people are trapped in the claws of loneliness probably because they feel no one cares for them enough to be their friend. Not to worry, just be yourself; don’t be afraid to express your opinions. If someone insults you, just ignore them – they have no idea what they’re talking about! Show yourself friendly and you attract more friends than you could ever imagine. Be Optimistic. Even if you are feeling really down, remember that there’s always something out there to smile about. A positive outlook will make people want to be around you more. Crack a joke. Having a sense of humour is important, but don’t get too carried away, there are some things you have to be serious about. Smile as much as you can. Signs of encouragement let people know you care about what they are saying. Share interesting/silly ideas. Your thoughts can open up many doors that can lead to friendship. Listen more than you talk. Instead of nodding and smiling and occasionally wiping the drool off y

Alternative Job Search Strategies by Kehinde Akintobi

Image
Years ago, giving copies of your resume to relatives or a network of contacts seemed to be all that was necessary. But today, the game had changed. When the game changes, smart people also change their strategies. Browsing through Tuesdays and Thursdays editions of Guardian newspaper and Wednesdays edition of Punch is good, but with what seems to be more job seekers than jobs, something extra may help. Seek Internship Opportunities. Interns are taken into companies to save costs for the companies and create learning opportunities for job applicants and work ready graduates. In some cases, impressive interns are retained after their internship period and later on upgraded to full staff status.  This is a win-win situation for both the company and the applicant. You can learn, try out things, impress your employer and get fully integrated into the company. The beauty of Internship is at least it gets you IN! The question remains "Where would you rather be, IN or OUT?

LASU: Kindly pay the old school fees - Fashola

Image
Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) Thursday ordered that students of Lagos State University, LASU, should revert to paying the old school fees. The recent increase led to protests by students and strike by the institution’s lecturers. The governor made the announcement that was received with jubilation by the students and their parents at the 19th Convocation and 30th anniversary of the state owned university. Fashola  said the reversal cuts across all departments and faculties of the tertiary institution. During Thursday’s event the governor also commissioned the university’s School of Transportation.  The astronomical increase in school fees pitched the government against the students for several months. This led to the setting up of a committee to review the fees.  The committee set up by Governor Fashola was headed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa. The students had demanded that the governor reduced the fees from N390,000 to N46,500.
