Relationship: Healing For Rape Victims (2) - Aidy Thomas

Providing support for sexually violated people can be quite difficult especially if you are not professionally trained to do so. Hundreds and thousands of negative thoughts can overtake your reasoning including a very strong desire for revenge. The position and approach of helpers would determine to a very great extent how soon and well a victim is able to recover and face life again. Yes it depends on who is involved; some victims could be scared to hear the word revenge because of fear of their attackers returning for more harm while others receive strength once they know someone is ready to plead their cause – this is where consultation and agreeing with the person is key. If they seem not clear on what they want, you just concentrate on assuring them of things that would aid their quick recovery.

Relationship: Healing For Rape Victims - Aidy Thomas

People who are obviously sick without emotional undertone are a lot easier to help than the others who require more than just medical attention. This might range from patients of ‘stigmatised diseases’ like HIV, Ebola or other private ailment not too pleasant to be identified with. Unfortunately, rape is one experience people feel really reluctant to talk about despite the fact that the society is being enlightened on how to handle it. In the past, people were usually blamed for being rape victims- accusing fingers were pointed to the way they possibly dressed before the attack, where they went or the company kept but these days, activists and counsellors who have devoted their time, knowledge and resources to helping humanity have come to conclude that ‘Rape’ is simply a crime on its own with little or no connections with sexual attraction, lust, beauty or desire. It is rather widely considered as a crime committed by angry people whose main aim is to exploit, contr

Adidas Finally Dumps Nigeria

German kit manufacturers Adidas has decided not to renew its deal with Nigeria and the Super Eagles. Futaa.com reports early today that in August, Adidas had written to the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, notifying them of their decision not to renew the current contract, which expires this month. The global merchandise outfit signed a new contract with the NFF on March 6, 2010 and did not state specific reason for pulling out. Aside this, Adidas also complained that Nigeria’s coach and some players violated contractual obligations by wearing a rival’s kit at major events. With Adidas not renew the contract, Nigeria has lost a deal worth $7m-a-year, which will increase the problems for the cash-strapped national teams. The NFF admitted finding a new sponsor is proving hard.

Tanzania cuts fuel pump prices over oil slump

Tanzania’s energy regulator on Thursday cut the retail prices of petrol, diesel and kerosene due to the global oil price slump, in a move likely to further ease inflationary pressures. Fuel prices have a big effect on inflation in East Africa’s second-largest economy. The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) slashed the maximum retail price on a litre of petrol by 6.83 per cent to 2,029 shillings ($1.1634) in the capital Dar es Salaam.   It also slashed that of diesel by 5.85 per cent to 1,909 shillings per litre. The price of kerosene was reduced by 7.16 per cent to 1,888 shillings per litre. “his notable drop in retail and wholesale local prices has been caused by a continued trend of falling world oil market prices and a decrease in the supplier’s premium. “Prices would have dropped further had it not been for the depreciation of the Tanzanian Shilling against the U.S. dollar,” authority said in a statement. The price adjustments took i

#HELP: No more money to feed Syrian refugees - UN

The United Nations’ food agency has announced that it is suspending its food programme serving more than 1.7 million Syrian refugees because it has run out of money. The World Food Programme (WFP) said on Monday that it “immediately needs” at least $64m in December alone to support the displaced Syrians now living in neighbouring countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey. “A suspension of WFP food assistance will endanger the health and safety of these refugees and will potentially cause further tensions, instability and insecurity in the neighbouring host countries,” said WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin, in an appeal to donors. “The suspension of WFP food assistance will be disastrous for many already suffering families.” Since the war in Syria began in 2011, over three million people have fled to neighbouring countries. Under the UN programme, the refugees use vouchers to buy food in local shops. The UN provides basics like flour, cooking oil and sugar. But it also gi
