Relationship: Today’s Pressure - Aidy Thomas

Image
The process of socialisation has made man to live by copying others. This on its own is not a problem because coming to a place (world) where you haven’t been before, it is only safe to follow the steps of those who know the terrain. People with rich story/history telling culture do their best to pass down values to the next generation using simple stories that reflect how their forefathers lived and what they actually believed. Handing down values and belief systems has made different people unique, dynamic and peculiar- it’s a lot easier to tell even by dressing, gestures, looks or behaviour where someone comes from or would have lived for a long time to become part of that system. Apart from innate capabilities, learning and borrowing values from predecessors has a way of giving man a sense of belonging. On the other hand, man has also grown to compete, compare and conspire to outdo one another in every sphere of life. Sometimes, this occurs as secret battle

Happy 30th Anniversary Betty & Soni Irabor

Image
Betty and Soni celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary yesterday and here is what Betty said  about marriage; We do have our roforofo moments but we work it out. A marriage where couples don’t communicate and bear grudges is likely to be an unhappy one.  Talk it over and don’t keep digging up the past. Forgive…forgive…forgive. What I know for sure is that Christ is the foundation of a good marriage.  Having said that, I would like to add that when the time comes for anyone to choose a life partner, choose a partner who is not embarrassed to say “I am sorry” when he is wrong and never makes you feel small so he can appear taller.  Marry for all the right reasons and never for what you can get out of it when you haven’t put anything in. Marriage takes Two: They say the future of a marriage lies in the hands of the woman but I say it takes two. Marriage is one of the world’s biggest collabos between two strangers. It has no manual; you learn on the job.

Nigeria Will Not Legalize Gay Marriage... Minister Insists

Image
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, has insisted that Nigeria will not succumb to external pressure to legalise same-sex marriage.   The minister was reacting to an accusation by the Christian Association of Nigeria, based on a statement credited to him, where he was alleged to have said Nigeria would accept gay diplomats and their “spouses”, if posted to the country.   In a statement made available to our correspondent on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said at no time did Ashiru make reference to gay diplomats in any of his statements or interviews.   The statement read, “The attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been drawn to stories on gay rights issues and Nigeria’s position on the matter.   “At his meeting with the diplomatic community on Friday July 19, the Foreign Affairs Minister, in his statement read to the meeting, where journalists and media executives were present, said foreign countries

Ondo senator weeps for endorsing under age girl marriage

Image
The member representing Ondo Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, wept before members of his constituency in Akure on Monday as he apologised to them that he voted in error to support the senate resolution backing marriage of underage girls. Akinyelure was summoned by his constituents to explain his role in the controversial passage of a resolution to retain the provision of Section 29 (4) (b) of the 1999 Constitution, which states that a married underage girl is deemed to be an adult. Politicians, women groups and students had besieged the Adegbemile Hall, venue of the meeting, with placards to protest against what they described as the legalisation of sexual abuse of young girls, which their representative had supported. But Akinyelure burst into tears as he laboured to convince the obviously enraged crowd at the tension-soaked session that he mistakenly pressed the wrong button during the electronic voting exercise thinking that h
