Michel Platini has been re-elected as UEFA president for a third four-year term. Platini was unopposed in the election and will continue his work in the top job, which he first took over in 2007. He also retains his FIFA vice-presidency for four more years, Sky Sports reports. The former France superstar and Ballon d’Or winner opted last year not to stand against Sepp Blatter in the forthcoming FIFA presidential election which takes place May 29. Platini has made it clear he does not support Blatter standing for a fifth term but he used his acceptance speech to insist that UEFA had “love and respect” for FIFA. “This means more to me than you can possibly imagine,” Platini told the UEFA Congress in Vienna. “I know I can count on you, and you know that you can count on me. “This allows me to continue for another four years. I do want to say that we love FIFA deeply, and it’s precisely because we love and respect FIFA that we want it to be perfect.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has threatened to go after schools and landlords in Nigeria that demand fees and rents in dollars. Rising from its Monetary Policy Committee meeting in Abuja yesterday March 24th, the CBN maintained that the only currency officially recognized for business in Nigeria is the Naira. “The official currency for doing business in Nigeria remains the Naira. Collecting rents or school fees in dollars in Nigeria is illegal. We like to advice those involved in these practices to desist from them, because CBN would very soon begin to go after them,” Mr. Emefiele warned. He said steps must be taken to prevent the dollar dominating Nigeria's economy. 

The consolidated suit filed by a group of lawyers challenging the eligibility of APC Presidential candidate, Gen Buhari has been adjourned to April 22nd.  The case which was to be heard yesterday March 24th was adjourned to today and on getting to the Federal High Court in Abuja this morning, the presiding judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola adjourned the case to April 22nd after dismissing applications by two intended parties to join the suit as defendants.

An Airbus plane operated by Lufthansa's Germanwings budget airline carrying 142 passengers and 6 crew crashed in southern France this morning. The airbus A320 was flying from Barcelona, Spain to Duesseldorf, Germany when it disappeared from radar in the Alpes de Hautes Provence after sending a distress signal at 10.47am local time. Everyone on board is feared dead after debris from the plane was found scattered over a wild area near Barcelonnette hours later. The cause of the crash is not yet known.

Below is the text of address by APC presidential candidate Gen. Buhari at an Interactive Session with the Nigerian Press Organisation, NPO in Abuja today Tuesday 17th March... Thank you for honoring me with your presence here today. Thank you for heeding     my invitation to this special meeting with key stakeholders in the Nigerian media. Our country is on the verge of something new. The tide has turned and the world can sense the wave of change that is about to flood this nation. In less than two weeks, the Nigerian electorate will head to the polls to make their voices heard.  Through the ballot, without a single shot fired, a change revolution will likely take place. There are two specific reasons why I have invited you here today.

The Federal Government has announced the reduction in electricity tariff by half. Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Sam Amadi, who made the announcement in Abuja today March 17th, said after a review of the tariffs being paid by Nigerians, the commission agreed to slash it by half. The reduction takes effect from the end of March. He said the commission agreed to remove the Multi-year tariff order, MYTO 2.1 following multiple petitions and complains from Nigerians especially members of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria who said inclusion of the MYTO 2.1 caused them to spend more on their businesses and in some cases loss of jobs.

Wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, has said she is not ready to feed her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan, in prison. The President’s wife spoke in Ado Ekiti, on Monday, during the rally of the women’s wing of the Peoples Democratic Party. Making a reference to the All Progressives Congress, she asked, “What did they forget in Aso Rock? If you vote the PDP and Jonathan, it would be better for you. If you vote the APC, you will go to prison. How can you jail somebody for 300 years? I’m not ready to carry food to my husband inside prison oh!” She openly admitted that the Office of the First Lady, which she occupies, is illegal.
