Kobe Bryant announces retirement from basketball at age 37

One of the most talented basketball players of all time, Kobe Bryant, of the Los Angeles Lakers announced yesterday Sunday November 29th that he would retire from professional basketball after the end of this season, his 20th in the NBA. He announced his retirement in form of a poem on The Players' Tribune website, bringing to a close one of the most decorated careers in the history of the sport. In the poem titled 'Dear Basketball' The 37 year old wrote; You gave a six-year-old boy his Laker dream And I’ll always love you for it. But I can’t love you obsessively for much longer.

Gunmen attack ‪#‎Mali‬ hotel, take hostages

Gunmen attacked the iconic Radisson hotel in the Malian capital of Bamako on Friday. The attackers are believed to have taken hostages, according to a security sources. Automatic weapons fire could be heard from outside the luxury 190-room hotel, where security forces have set up a security cordon, according to witnesses. “A hostage-taking or attempted hostage-taking is in progress,” said FRANCE 24 correspondant Serge Daniel, reporting from Bamako. Daniel said that security forces had established a security perimeter around the hotel and that the hotel was “completely sealed off”. The identity of the attackers and their motives are not yet known. “It’s all happening on the seventh floor, jihadists are firing in the corridor,” a security source told AFP. In a bid to sanitize the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the acting chairman of the commission, Ibrahim Magu, has ordered the arrest of some of the agency's management staff who allegedly leak information about the operations of the agency to online media. A source within the agency who spoke on the condition of anonymity told The Nation; "The no-nonsense acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, Ibrahim Magu, has commenced a massive clean-up of the agency with the arrest of some officers.   Those affected are a director and five officers who are causing disaffection and engaging in corrupt practices. We will not release their names until the investigation is completed. They were allegedly involved in unauthorised leakages of official information and causing damaging reports based on false information to be published against the commission by bloggers. Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied claims by former NSA Sambo Dasuki that he awarded a $2 billion arms procurement contract while he was in office. Jonathan stated his position on the controversy surrounding arms procurement investigative panel, while speaking at a forum in Washington DC, yesterday November 19, 2015 “I did not award any $2 billion contract for procurement of weapons. Where did the money come from?” he said In a statement on Wednesday November 18th, Dasuki alleged that he bought some weapons worth over $2 billion which was approved by the former President. 105 Nigerian soldiers reported missing

An air of uncertainty hovers on some faces of Nigerians following the news making round the country about 105 gallant Nigerian soldiers who went on a raid against Boko Haram terrorists but suddenly went missing.  Sources who spoke to newsmen said that, “Gudunbali was attacked this morning and some weapons were captured from the battalion. Two officers and 105 soldiers are still missing.”  “They captured a T-72 tank from the unit and some artillery weapons were also captured. The commanding Officer (CO) of the battalion is yet to be seen but no one has been confirmed dead yet,” the source added. The source also added that the sect members carted away a truck loaded with 60,000 rounds of AA ammunition and three artillery pieces. Mastermind of Paris terror attack killed

The man suspected of masterminding last Friday's Paris attacks that killed 129 people, was killed in the police raid north of Paris Wednesday, investigators confirmed.  Abdelhamid Abaaoud, 27, was the second person to die in the Saint-Denis raid, the French prosecutor's office reported Thursday. He was identified from skin samples.  Abaaoud had previously been linked to a string of thwarted attacks including the plot to kill passengers on a Paris-bound high-speed train in August, a plot that 3 young Americans helped foil. He claimed he successfully moved back and forth from Europe to Syria coordinating terror attacks, and narrowly escaped a January police raid in the Belgian city of Verviers. “Allah blinded their vision and I was able to leave... despite being chased after by so many intelligence agencies," he told the ISIS magazine Dabiq.
