Football: Wenger salute matured Arsenal

Arsene Wenger insists his boys have grown into men after backing Premier League leaders Arsenal to maintain their impressive title challenge into the New Year. Wenger's team ended 2013 with 82 points - more than any of their Premier League rivals - as they returned to the top of the table thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Newcastle on Sunday. Seven of the last nine clubs to head into the New Year at the summit have gone on to win the English title in May.

I got this story on Stella's Blog  and i want to share it with you, kindly read on. ''I  tried pouring the juice from the five alive into a glass cup, but it felt like something clogged the opening. The little juice that poured into the glass cup was blackish/green so, I got a knife and tore the pack and poured the content into a the bowl (pictured above) and that was what I saw….. That scarie looking thing. I checked the expiry date AGAIN.... BEST BEFORE 15/08/14 .  I took a pix of the content and the pack. Sent a mail to (info.nbc@cchellenic.com) and I've been calling the toll free number 080026222652 to no avail. I'm just grateful to God my kids didn't drink this poison.''

Wole Soyinka's daughter dies at 48

Iyetade Soyinka, a daughter of Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, has died. Ms. Soyinka, who was born June 6, 1965, died at the University of Ibadan Teaching Hospital where she was being treated for an undisclosed ailment. The death was disclosed in a statement signed by Jahman Anikulapo, an aide to Mr. Soyinka, one of the world’s foremost dramatists and winner of the 1986 Nobel Prize in literature. The statement noted that the late Iyetade Soyinka was a student at the Staff School and Queens School, Ibadan before she studied Medicine at the University of Ibadan. “Iyetade leaves behind two children, both parents, numerous siblings, nieces and nephews.”  No funeral arrangements were announced in the statement.

The Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has claimed that he is one of the persons on the lists of 1,000 politicians that President Goodluck Jonathan is targeting to kill, as alleged in a letter by a former Nigerian president to Jonathan.

The Saudi Arabian plane that broke down on the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport on the 4th of December leading to the closure of the airport for over 20 hours was carrying 5 set of bulletproof cars weighing 58 tonnes and another set of five bullet proof cars weighing 42 tonnes, according to the Saudi Arabian Embassy.

The annual commemoration of the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ is a most auspicious time for us, as individuals and as a nation, to rededicate ourselves to the virtues and ideals which the Messiah preached and exemplified during his earthly ministry.

Former  President Olusegun Obasanjo   on Monday said he would not  reply President Goodluck Jonathan’s December  20 letter  accusing him of threatening national security. Obasanjo, who addressed a news conference  through his media aide, Tunde Oladunjoye,at his Hilltop Mansion in Abeokuta, Ogun State, said  in spite of requests by Nigerian and international media  for him to  reply the President, he would  still maintain his “serenity.” But he made it clear that  he had through his December 2,2013 letter to Jonathan, done his duty to the President, the Peoples Democratic Party and the nation, as a former President and an elder statesman.

  Jose Mourinho has branded Arsenal cry babies following an ill-tempered goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium last night. Arsene Wenger was upset his side were denied a penalty after Willian appeared to trip Theo Walcott in the box, while John Mikel Obi escaped a red card for catching Mikel Arteta’s ankle in a bruising clash. The result means Liverpool top the Barclays Premier League at Christmas for the first time since 2008, with Arsenal second on goal difference after leading for three months and Chelsea fourth.

Bomber Kabiru Sokoto get life imprisonment

A federal high court in Abuja,  Justice Ademola Adeniyi has found Kabiru Sokoto guilty of the crime of terrorism and murder. Sokoto was the mastermind of the deadly Christmas day bombing of St. Theresa Catholic church that killed at least 44 people  in 2011. Sokoto was a member of the Shura council of Islamist sect Boko Haram according to his persoanl testimony during the trial.

Woolwich Killers: Michael Adebolajo and Micheal Adebowale found guilty

  Woolwich killers, Michael Adebolajo (left) and his friend, Michael Adebowale (right) have been found guilty of the murder of British soldier, Lee Rigby.  25 year old Rigby was attacked by the Muslim extremists on May 22 outside his military barracks  in Woolwich South London. They first run the soldier down with their car while  he was returning from an errand, then mutilated and nearly beheaded him in a crime that happened in broad day light. It took the jury only 90 minutes to come back with a guilty verdict. Adebolajo reportedly  kissed the Koran and smiled as the verdicts were read but Adebowale didn't react. They  will both be sentenced next month

The first daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo, has ruled out further communication with her father till death, describing him as a liar, manipulator, megalomaniac, narcissistic, two-faced hypocrite determined to foist on President Goodluck Jonathan what no one would contemplate with him as president. Doctors in public hospital in Nigeria begin 5days warning strike

Nigerian doctors today began a 5-day warning strike following a 21-day ultimatum issued weeks ago to the federal government, demanding pay rise, improved welfare, infrastructure and other benefits which was promised to them. The President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Osahon Enabulele said this is the first phase of the strike, that the second phase would be effective after the yuletide if there are no favorable developments. All doctors in public hospitals this morning retrieved their services.

Ghana man kills wife, blames her Nigerian lover

Minta Adiddo A Ghanaian man jailed Monday in the United Kingdom for 17 years after he killed his wife has blamed the devil and a Nigerian neighbour for making him stab his wife at least 15 times and then running her over with his car. Minta Adiddo thought his wife, Akua Agyeman and mother of two children was having an affair with the Nigerian neighbour. According to Mail Online, the 32-year-old mother of two died two months after the brutal stabbing, which was witnessed by her five-year-old daughter. Adiddo, 38, was given a life sentence by the Old Bailey Court after being convicted of murder, with a minimum term of 17 years. The Mail Online reported that The Sainsbury’s worker from Enfield, North London, had pleaded guilty to manslaughter, although he denied murder. The court heard he suspected his wife was having an affair with their neighbour Oladapo Etti-Williams in October 2012.

Andre Villas-Boas Sacked

Andre Villas-Boas got the boot after 17 months as the manager of Tottenham. He was sacked a day after Spurs were thrashed 5-0 by Liverpool at White Hart Lane, which left the north London club five points below the Champions League places, in seventh in the Premier League table. “The club can announce that agreement has been reached with head coach, Andre Villas-Boas, for the termination of his services,” read a statement on the Tottenham website.

A day after Madiba was buried, South Africa unveiled a giant 30-foot bronze statue of the former president. The unity statue was unveiled today December 16th on the lawns of the Union Buildings, which is the seat of government in Pretoria

ASUU called off strike

According to the reports from Minna, Niger State capital, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has called off its 5-month strike. The decision to suspend the strike was made after a marathon meeting held at the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Niger State on Monday. Just a few days ago, the Federal Government and ASUU had reached a compromise during a negotiation brokered by the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar.
