Years ago, giving copies of your resume to relatives or a network of contacts seemed to be all that was necessary. But today, the game had changed. When the game changes, smart people also change their strategies.
Browsing through Tuesdays and Thursdays editions of Guardian newspaper and Wednesdays edition of Punch is good, but with what seems to be more job seekers than jobs, something extra may help.

Seek Internship Opportunities. Interns are taken into companies to save costs for the companies and create learning opportunities for job applicants and work ready graduates. In some cases, impressive interns are retained after their internship period and later on upgraded to full staff status. 
This is a win-win situation for both the company and the applicant. You can learn, try out things, impress your employer and get fully integrated into the company. The beauty of Internship is at least it gets you IN! The question remains "Where would you rather be, IN or OUT?
