NIgeria: Immigration Tragedy Aftermath: Nigerian govt. cancels mass recruitment by its agencies

The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of all ongoing recruitment exercise by its ministries, departments, and agencies, MDAs.

The government, however, said the military and the police were exempted from the directive.

The cancellation comes five days after about 20 people died during a recruitment exercise by the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS.

The government also condoled with the family of the victims of the NIS tragedy.

Already, the Nigeria Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has commenced investigations into the NIS recruitment tragedy where stampede in various venues across the country led to the death of the job seekers on Saturday.

There have been widespread calls by Nigerians for the removal of both the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro and The Comptroller-General of Immigration, David Parradang, from office.
